Shared Bus & Bike Lanes:
We want our riders and the public alike to know that we respect all forms of transportation—including bikes. To show our mutual respect, the City of Baltimore has implemented shared bus and bike lanes in support of Bike Baltimore.
Our goal is to improve safety for cyclists and Circulator passengers. We hope the shared lanes will streamline bus movement and promote bike use.
We’re establishing a clear policy: To use these lanes, ride to the right and pass on the left. It’s that simple.
Bike Baltimore is the Department of Transportation’s bike program. Managed by the Planning Division, Bike Baltimore includes anything bike related, including implementing the Bicycle Master Plan, incorporating cycling in many transportation projects, installing bike racks and coordinating cycling events.
The Bicycle Master Plan was developed by the Department of Planning in 2006. Since then, Baltimore has installed 42 on-street bike lane miles and is adding more every year.
